Template:Infobox Company Halon Security is a privately held company providing network security appliances and services headquartered in Gothenburg, Sweden. Today the company's main focus is on protection against spam and email security.
Halon started out as a firewall brand. In 2004, it's first product based on OpenBSD<ref>http://www.idg.se/2.1085/1.25120</ref> was released by Skal Soft, a sub-diary of Skal Consulting Group AB. A complete remake was launched in January 2006, based on their H/OS platform running on top of a FreeBSD kernel<ref>http://www.idg.se/2.1085/1.57736</ref>. In early 2007, Halon Security was established as a sub-diary of Skal Consulting Group AB.
The first hardware spam appliance (named SPG) running on H/OS 2 was introduced in December 2007<ref>http://www.idg.se/2.1085/1.139500</ref> with technology licensed from Commtouch<ref>http://www.commtouch.com/oem-partner-highlights</ref> and Kaspersky<ref>http://www.kaspersky.com/oemsuccess?chapter=207716219&accept=1&storyid=199780836</ref>. The virtual machine edition (VSP) was launched for VMware only<ref>http://www.idg.se/2.1085/1.193913/nytt-spamskydd-for-virtuella-servrar</ref> in October 2008, and later support for Citrix XenServer was added in October 2009.
