System
This document is about the Web Administration section System. It has five tabs; Hardware, Time, Configuration, Updates and Licenses. All these tabs are associated with the core operation of the appliance.
Hardware
This tab is most importantly used to restart (reboot) the appliance in a graceful manner. Although cutting the power is one option (which is acceptable for storage-less appliances such as our SX firewalls) it is not recommended for storage-based devices such as the SPG/VSP mail gateways. Pressing "Restart H/OS" once will trigger an "empty queues" operations; where no more messages are received, and the outgoing queue is emptied. If this takes too long time; press "Restart H/OS" again, to trigger a "fast restart", where only the most necessary tasks (such as clearing disk buffers) is performed.
The Unit Identification section contains purely presentational settings, such as the appliance name. Choosing good names are very handy in a clustered installation.
Time
Accurate timekeeping is necessary when analyzing log files. It is highly recommended that you specify an NTP time server. Choosing the correct time zone is also helpful, in order for the appliance to get features such as daylight time saving right.
