Installing Halon VSP on VMware ESXi
During the VSP installation (halon-vsp-2.X.X.exe), you should choose "VMware ESXi" as environment. Once completed, all files required for the Halon VSP to run in the VMware ESXi is placed in a folder chosen during the installation (for example, C:\Program Files\Halon Security\Halon VSP\Virtual Machine\). These files need to be uploaded to the VMware ESXi host using the so-called Datastore Browser.
Datastore Browser
Start by connecting to your ESXi host using the VMware Infrastructure Client. Go to the summary page on the ESXi host in the listing (usually "localhost.localdomain"). Double-click on the datastore to bring up the Datastore Browser.
Upload the Virtual Machine
The Datastore Browser allows you to manage all files on your ESXi host. Choose Upload -> Upload Folder and Select the "Halon VSP\Virtual Machine" folder and press "OK" to begin the upload.
Wait a few minutes for the upload to complete.
Add to Inventory
Once the files are uploaded, open the newly created Virtual Machine folder in the Datastore Browser and right click on the "Halon VSP-ESXi.vmx" file and choose "Add to Inventory".
Follow the steps in the wizard, assign it a name (Halon VSP) and choose your resource pool (localhost.localdomain).
Resize Storage Disk
As stated in the installation, you need to resize the included storage disk before starting the VSP for the very first time. This cannot be done later without storage information loss, and therefore requires you to perform a complete export/import of the disk. This is something you want to avoid.
We recommend that you resize the disk to at least 10 GB, since it will be used for messages (queues and the quarantine), virus signatures, virtual memory swap, logs, and much more. Go to the settings for your Halon VSP Virtual Machine and resize the second disk (Hard Disk 2).
Start the Appliance
Start the virtual machine and view the boot process in the VMware console.
Once booted, you may access the unit on the IP address you assigned during the installation (eg http://192.168.0.1/) using the default username/password of admin/admin. For further assistance, please see the getting started document, or read the mail gateway configuration section.
